I have experienced several losses in my life, be it pets or people, family or friends.
These experiences brought about a sense of isolation and emptiness but it wasn’t until I lost my faithful companion ‘Boofey’, a 18 1/2-year-old Cattle X Kelpie, which in a few words brought me to my knees, that I turned my attention towards grief counselling and pet loss support.
I provide counselling and support for people of all ages, both young and older, who are dealing with expected or unexpected pet loss including:
- making end of life decisions,
- grieving for your pet (prior or post-loss),
- being with you and/or your pet at your vet/at home (for those in Penrith, NSW and surrounds),
- deciding whether you are ready for another pet.
Sessions are 1 hour in duration and can be held online or by telephone. Rebates are also available to eligible members of Medibank Private and Doctors Health Fund (please refer to your policy for further details).
My approach is deeply person-centered, utilizing narrative practices in remembering those we have lost. The narrative approach in particular helps to resurface and maintain positive connections following the loss of a beloved pet and companion. I also work with a trauma-sensitive lens ensuring to keep each person I meet feeling safe. I have established By My Side for those seeking comfort and, I understand that everyone has their own unique story. You can tell your story, and be heard.
Please note By My Side is not a crisis counselling service. If you are in a crisis please contact:
Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Suicide Call Back Service 24/7 on 1300 659 467.
