Let’s face it, we all experience sadness and mood changes from time to time. More than these natural feelings, depression can affect how you see yourself, how you feel about yourself, and how you interact with the world around you. This can make life difficult, and particularly debilitating if experienced at length, with depression able to obscure the value of life. Those experiencing depression may feel as if there is little anybody can do to help. It can be difficult to escape symptoms that may manifest in different ways, such as:


Mood – Anxiety, apathy, guilt, feelings of hopelessness, negative self-talk, mood swings, sadness or a loss of interest in usual activities.

Behaviour – Agitation, excessive crying, irritability or social isolation.

Cognitive – Lack of concentration, feeling numb, thoughts of self-harm/suicide.

Routine – Excessive sleepiness, insomnia, chronic fatigue, restless sleep, changes in appetite.


According to Beyond Blue, one million Australians will experience depression in any given year, so while it may feel isolating, the statistics show otherwise. More than numbers, you are never alone in everyday life. I believe that every person deserves to be supported, loved and considered a priority in life, especially during the tough times. Our lives are so very precious!

The reality is we do not have superpowers, we all struggle sometimes and that’s ok because we don’t need to be perfect all the time. Counselling allows you to express your feelings and work in small steps toward resolutions that are important and a priority for you. The sky’s the limit. You can get your life back – one step at a time.
